EDIT This review is written from the perspective of someone interested in adult fantasy, rather than young adult middle grade fantasy The book is geared toward the latter, and I would definitely give it a higher rating in that market.I have gone back and fourth between 2 and 3 stars There are some nice aspects of the writing and story, but all in all I found unenjoyable than enjoyable Very hard to finish reading.Pros It really feels like there is an interesting backstory with the Historian character The story flows reasonably well, and although it didn t always interest me personally, I definitely didn t feel as though the author didn t know what he was doing during it Decent plot progression Some aspects of the book are predictable, but the author does incorporate some neat ideas successfully into the story that feel realistic.Cons The writing is not great Redundant and unnecessary word choice assaults you by the second page of the book onward, and than a few times the descriptions of locations or scenes would be too vague to really grasp what I m supposed to be imagining The politics society of different groups and people in the story very stereotypical and shallow What makes the good guys good and the bad guys bad feels extremely forced most of the time No real depth to the hero The underlying message on morality doesn t really work well with the story arc of the book It feels as though the author is using the moral of the story to guide the text to the point it s a flaw , rather than vice versa which usually works a lot better in my opinion Lots of overused tropes and very predictable in some respects Not a lot of lore to sink into for a fantasy book.In summary, I just didn t find this book interesting in any major way plot, characters, world, underlying message, or writing I would personally expect it to be better received by someone who is young or just dabbling into light fiction That being said, there are enough good aspects of the writing hidden in there that I might keep an eye on the author s future work.

The Price Of Creation by Lance Conrad is a very exciting book for middle schoolers First, Lance uses lots of exciting descriptions For example, the Historian writes, He came flying through the solid wood door That describes how strong one of the characters has to be Likewise, the main character is about 13, the age of a 7th or 8th grader Above all, this is a very good and exciting book for middle schoolers.
